Support and education at home with your baby

Postnatal home visits

Kindred Midwifery offers in-home consultations for new parents, within six weeks of having a baby.

We understand that the transition period of bringing a new baby home can be a big change for a family, even when it isn’t the first time.

Midwives offer support, education, clinical assessment and practical advice for parents and newborns.

Midwifery home visits attract a medicare rebate and are available to all families, regardless of where or with whom you had your care.

Postnatal home visits include:

  • Assessment and advice regarding postnatal recovery for women
  • Newborn examinations including weight for babies
  • Support and education about newborn behaviours and parenting
  • Feeding, sleep and settling advice
  • Referral to other community services for ongoing support as required

Enabling families to make informed decisions and feel supported

Education

At Kindred, we are passionate about the journey.

For us, it’s not enough just to provide clinical care during pregnancy – we want to prepare people to be parents. We want to facilitate the transition, and admire the change.

We are building a community; a supportive environment from the beginning of pregnancy into parenthood.

Education and support is an invaluable part of the journey and we have specifically designed our education sessions to be small, casual and interactive.
We understand that each family isn’t going to need or want exactly the same education and support, therefore we have introduced modular sessions, to allow families to access what is important to them.

Trimester Talks.
These occur monthly and are free of charge, they are open to all women and partners and discuss ‘what to expect’ as you move between first, second, third (and fourth) trimester.

Fourth Trimester.
No, we aren’t going to make your pregnancy longer. Yes, fourth trimester is a valid period during your transition to parenthood and in actual fact, the most important one to feel educated and supported during. This includes information on what to expect as you get used to being parents, while you baby gets used to being in the world.

Education Modules.
Short sessions designed to facilitate discussion and learning about topics relevant to pregnancy, labour, birth and the postpartum period.

Because having a newborn is unpredictable

Drop-in baby clinics

Having booked appointment times and a newborn is not always an ideal combination.

We know that life with a newborn brings days that are smooth, and others that are not so, and while it is important that you have check ups, it is more important that you have them at times that suit your unpredictable world.

Kindred has self-weigh and drop-in clinics where no appointment is needed and if you can’t make it that day, just drop in when you can.

These clinics are free of charge and involve:

  • baby weigh facilitates
  • tea station
  • ability to chat to a midwife and book full a consultation if needed.

Enabling women to become their own experts in their feeding experience

Lactation consultation

Breastfeeding support was traditionally distributed through communities where wisdom and experience were shared between local neighbours, families and friends – passed through generations.

Social dynamics have evolved over time and these communities have dispersed, resulting in women not being able to access the support they might have otherwise.

Within Kindred’s approach to recognising each woman and family has a very unique journey, we understand this extends beyond birth and into care of your new baby. We aim to create an outlet where women can seek individualised lactation support, tailored to their own family dynamics.

Breastfeeding is a different road to navigate for every woman, and every baby.

We aim to bring breastfeeding back to basics, overcome overcomplicated social ideals and enhance confidence by providing support, education and expertise.

Toni is a qualified lactation consultant that works alongside Kindred and offers consultations during pregnancy and after birth, available in our clinic rooms or in your home.
